A Global Outlook
Education for the Asian Century – ready for the world
At Canberra Grammar School, we know that the children we educate now are of the world’s first truly global generation. More than any before them, they will live, study and work across cultures and languages in an increasingly mobile and permeable world. Despite the dynamics of change, one thing is certain: our children’s futures will be shaped by the dramatic economic, political and educational emergence of Asia as the world’s dominant region and as the most significant external influence on Australian life and prosperity in the twenty-first century; the Asian Century.
A modern education must reflect that reality, which is why our core aspiration at Canberra Grammar School is to educate students who are intelligent, innovative and ready to embrace our international future. The Snow Centre for Education in the Asian Century – the extraordinary gift of CGS Alumnus, Mr Terry Snow – is a bold expression of that intent.
In this era of great opportunity for our children, it is our goal at Canberra Grammar School to offer Australia’s most distinctive, dynamic and globally-oriented education.
The Snow Centre for Education in the Asian Century
Symbolically designed to link the School’s past with its future, The Snow Centre for Education in the Asian Century blends the classic red brick features of the School’s heritage-listed Quadrangle with a bold apex of zinc and glass pointing outwards to the world and to Australia’s neighbours.
It houses classrooms for the teaching of Asian languages, geography, history, economics and culture, and it includes an amphitheatre for group meetings and mini-lectures, an exhibition area, open learning spaces, student collaboration pods, and video conferencing facilities to link lessons with schools and universities around the world.
