The academic achievement I am most proud of is my Year 11 results, where I received the subject awards in Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, IT and a Summa Cum Laude medal. I received these for ranking first in the respective courses and earning an A grade in six subjects. Until Year 11, I had not received any academic awards for my school performance, and I was very proud of myself for the immense work I put into the year and the drastic improvement I made as a result. I had made it my stretch goal when I commenced the HSC to win these awards and to achieve it was the academic highlight of my Senior School journey.
I was very proud of this because it showed my resilience and perseverance in subjects that I was not ordinarily as good at, especially English, where I had not performed very well the year prior. It highlighted the continued effort that I put into my academic studies, something which I had been unable to consistently do in years prior. I was proud because of the personal growth that came with doing Senior subjects. It highlighted to me that I was capable of succeeding in an academic setting through consistent effort. It gave me confidence in my academics and instilled discipline in my work which I believe will be invaluable in the future.
In Year 11 I joined the Code Cadets programme, which fostered my interest in software and programming. This supplemented my study of IT in Year 11 and allowed me to take on interesting projects that I would not have otherwise been able to complete. It also allowed me to enrich my in-class study, particularly my programming skills, which contributed to my success in the subject. Code Cadets exposed me to further experiences and excursions to various IT-related industries which grew my interest and knowledge of the subject.
The teachers at Canberra Grammar School have supported my academic journey the entire way through. Notably my Year 11 and 12 teachers have provided an amazing opportunity for me to succeed through giving me extension work, being passionate about their subjects as well as being expertly knowledgeable in their field. They helped to nurture the love that I have for my chosen subjects, particularly Maths where I was inspired to pursue the subject further into university. My senior Maths teachers encouraged me to pursue my passion in the subject and provided a space for me to truly excel. They also supported my involvement in the ANU Extension Maths programme, giving me a far wider breadth of knowledge about complicated topics usually reserved for deep into a Mathematics degree, and solidifying my choice to undertake further study.
