The countdown is on for an unforgettable day celebrating six decades of CGS Rowing, and we’re thrilled to share some exciting updates!

At our daytime celebrations, we’ll christen new boats honouring rowing greats Andrew Wrigley, Caleb Antill, Sarah Cook, Tom Westgarth, and Wilma McKeown, all at the CGS Rowing Centre. Plus, enjoy a photo exhibition, morning tea, and even the chance to take to the water.

At our evening Rowing Gala Dinner, we’re bringing together true CGS Rowing legends as panellists:

• Malcolm Lamb (CGS Head of Rowing 1975-1980s)
• John Kelleher (CGS 1999)
• Matthew Barnier (CGS 2010)
• Caleb Antill OLY (CGS 2013)
• Zoe Bond (CGS 2021)

This year, five CGS students had the opportunity to be involved in the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book of the Year Announcement Ceremony. Sophia (Year 11) and Reuben (Year 8) spent a day last week at the NLA filming the Announcement video, which was streamed during the ceremony and across the country.

Mairead (Year 8), Mila (Year 10) and Isla (Year 10) were invited to review a shortlisted book in the Older Reader category, which they shared on stage at the Announcement Ceremony. Following the ceremony, the students were invited to an afternoon tea. They were lucky enough to meet the Governor General and award-winning YA authors, Gary Lonesborough, Sharon Kernot and Erin Gough.

On Thursday, CGS hosted the annual Goulburn Boarding Parents Dinner at The Edge Restaurant.

It was a fantastic evening with a great turnout of current boarding families, as well as future families keen to learn more about CGS and our boarding community. Head of Admissions, Lisa Baum and Assistant Head of Girls Boarding, Giorgia Bakenberg, and I hosted the evening.

Our boarding parents are incredibly passionate about the School and their children’s experiences. They are always generous with their feedback, which is valued. While many of them live locally, the opportunity to come together in a relaxed setting and simply enjoy each other’s company was clearly appreciated.

I always find it fascinating to hear about their rural lifestyles and the unique challenges they navigate in supporting their children — even if its often just the logistics of getting them to and from various places and events.

Good food and great company made for a wonderful evening. I’m grateful for their ongoing support.
