CGS CONNECT

Work Experience Programme

Grow their skills, shape their futures

As a valued member of the CGS Alumni community, you have a unique opportunity to support the next generation by getting involved in the School’s Careers Programme. Whether through your current role or organisation, you can offer short-term work experience opportunities that provide students with invaluable insights into the working world. It’s a meaningful way to stay connected with the School while helping students explore their passions and pathways through real-world exposure—powered by their alumni network.

Work experience involves a student spending 3-5 days in a real workplace of their choice. It provides the opportunity to seethe  day to day of an organisation that they may not otherwise have access to. They may watch others perform a role, get hands-on experience, or both dependant on what the host employer is will and able to provide as part of the experience.

Employers: Why HOST a Work Experience Student?

Alumni in a variety of industries opt to take on a CGS student for a variety of reasons:

  • boost the profile of their industry
  • encouraging students to consider pathways they may not have considered
  • share their expertise with a young person and help them make life changing decisions
  • to make a contribution to their community

While there is a time commitment, the experience is generally highly rewarding for all involved.

Application Process

  1. Once students have an employer lined up and dates confirmed, complete the Expression of Interest form.
  2. Students will be taken to an Infiniti form that is connected to the Four Way Agreement forms.
  3. WEX students will need to complete the ‘My Work Experience Modules‘ and upload these in the EOI (VET students will need to complete the ‘Go 2 Work Placement‘ modules.)
  4. A Careers Advisor or VET teacher will approve the dates for the placement – the assessment timeline will be considered if the WEX placement falls in term time.
  5. Students then will receive an email with information about Work Experience (or VET placement). This link will then be forwarded by the student to the host employer.
  6. Host employer completes the agreement.
  7. Parent or primary contact on CGS Connect will complete the agreement.
  8. Forms return to Careers Advisor or VET teacher for school final approval.
  9. Forms go to student who agrees to terms and conditions.

Ideally this should be complete 2 weeks prior to commencement of the placement.

The placement cannot proceed until all four parties have completed the forms – this is a legal agreement.
