Last week marked a significant milestone in our journey as an IB World School, with the completion of our IB PYP Evaluation. This process provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on our practices and celebrate the strength of our programme, particularly in fostering inquiry-based learning, student agency, and international-mindedness. We are thrilled with the positive feedback received, which highlights the dedication, professionalism, and hard work of our entire school community. A sincere thank you to the IB evaluators for their thoughtful insights, and to our staff, students, and parents for their outstanding contributions, engaging professional conversations and openness in sharing about our wonderful School.

A massive congratulations to the achievements of three CGS Rugby players during the Term 2 holiday period.

To Hunter, who was selected as a referee for the British and Irish Lions v ACT Brumbies game at GIO Stadium Canberra. Officially named as the No. 6 Referee, he ran the on-ground logistics assisting the Head Referee, world-renowned international French Rugby Referee Pierre Brousset. Pierre awarded Hunter with the touch flag honour after the game, signed by all the international referees.

To Magnus, who was selected for the ACT Brumbies U/18 side, playing the National Junior Rugby Championship on the Sunshine Coast. He was a regular member of the ACT U/18 starting XV and played exceptionally well throughout the weekend.

And to Ned, who was selected for the ACT Brumbies U/12 NSW state championship side, playing exceptionally during every minute of every tournament game. A magnificent feat.

Well done to all three students on your achievements and exemplary representation of CGS values.

In 1964, Lake Burley Griffin was filled, and CGS obtained a site in Yarralumla Bay from the then Australian Government Department of Interior. It also marked the simultaneous inaugural year for CGS Rowing, and the School purchased its first rowing boat, a coxed four from the ACT Rowing Association.

By 1967, the fleet of CGS boats had grown to two eights and two fours to accommodate the 28 students involved in the School’s rowing programme. Due to this continued growth, it was decided that a facility was needed to accommodate up to 80 students.

Fundraising started in 1967 for a Rowing Shed; this initiative was successfully led by the School’s Parents and Friends Association, and the structure was built as an aquatic Centre which included Rowing, Kayaking and Sailing, to formally open in 1970.

We’re excited to share that CGS students Jun (Year 11) and Alex (Year 9) represented Australia at the 17th World Dragon Boat Racing Championships in Germany.

After 10 months of training, which included countless local sessions to national hub trainings in every major city, along with two major training camps in Penrith and the Gold Coast, they travelled to Germany to represent Australia at the World Championships.
