We are delighted to welcome Amanda Peake to Canberra Grammar School as our new Director of Community Development.

Amanda began her career in marketing and communications before moving into Primary School teaching, later specialising in engagement and communication within the independent school sector. She has held senior roles across schools in Townsville, Canberra and Wellington, New Zealand, bringing wide-ranging experience shaped by diverse school communities.

Central to her work is a longstanding belief that strategy, communication and engagement should always support, and never distract from, excellent learning and teaching.

As Director of Community Development, Amanda will lead the School’s work across engagement, brand, marketing, admissions, alumni, philanthropy, events and archives. Her focus is on strengthening how the CGS story is told and experienced, ensuring that engagement with students, families, staff, alumni and the broader community is authentic, aligned and deeply connected to the daily life of the School.

We are excited for the fresh energy and insight Amanda will bring to the CGS community.

We’re drawing to the end of our first week back, and Canberra Grammar School students have hit the ground running, from Pre-K all the way to Year 12. It has been fantastic to see our new students starting to find their place in the School, and to see so many familiar faces back on campus again.Image attachmentImage attachment+5Image attachment

Whisper Wednesday is a weekly initiative in the Primary School Library designed to create a calm, low-stimulus space during the school week. Each Wednesday, lights are dimmed and voices are kept low, offering students a peaceful environment to read, focus on creative activities, or enjoy a quiet game of chess. It’s one of the many ways we thoughtfully support student wellbeing, focus and balance throughout the school day.Image attachmentImage attachment+2Image attachment

Welcome back!

It’s been a busy few days at Canberra Grammar School. Over the weekend, we opened our doors to the newest CGS Boarding students and welcomed back those returning to us in 2026. On Monday, our newest Senior and our Primary students had an earlier start to the term with our Welcome Day activities; our 2026 Senior new starters began the day with a meet and greet, march in to the Main Quad, a smoking ceremony, a tour of the School, and other orientation activities.

Today, Senior School began the term for all students with our start-of-year Welcome Chapel & Assembly, and it was wonderful to see the Whole School full of life and vibrancy once more.

We’re excited not only for the year ahead, but to see your photos with our 𝑾𝑬𝑳𝑪𝑶𝑴𝑬 𝑻𝑶 𝑪𝑮𝑺 sign that has taken up residence on the front lawn of the School! Mr Thompson has promised a prize to the best submitted student photo in front of the sign, which will remain in place until Friday afternoon.Image attachmentImage attachment+Image attachment
