Welcome from the head of school

We are as excited by our school’s future as we are proud of its rich academic, sporting, social and artistic history… and we’re just getting started.

Welcome from the Head of School

WHY CGS?

Approaching our centenary in 2029, Canberra Grammar School stands as one of Australia’s leading independent co-educational schools, uniting nearly 100 years of tradition with a bold vision for the future.

As an Anglican day and boarding school for students from Pre-School to Year 12, we believe that a co-educational environment best prepares young people for the world beyond school where collaboration, equality, and respect are fundamental to success.

Our inclusive and globally minded community brings together students from more than 40 nations to learn, live and grow with purpose. Set on a magnificent campus in Canberra’s inner south, CGS offers exceptional academic, co-curricular and pastoral opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity, confidence and compassion in every student preparing them to thrive as citizens of the world.

OUR SENIOR SCHOOL

We encourage students to develop critical-thinking skills, confidence in leadership, and the ability to find creative solutions in an increasingly complex world—while remaining active and compassionate citizens. Located on our Red Hill campus, the Senior School features outstanding facilities that support academic, co-curricular, and pastoral programmes.

To mark International Women’s Day, our Year 4 students visited the Senior School's Art, Design and Technology workshop for a special reading of This Girl Built That.

Led by Design and Technology teacher Yogi Sewani, students gathered in the workshop to explore a story celebrating imagination, creativity and the many careers open to the next generation.

In many ways, our students were hearing the story from someone who lives it, a woman educator who builds, designs and teaches the next generation to do the same.

Surrounded by tools, timber and big ideas, students asked thoughtful questions about designing, building and creating, and reflected on the many different pathways that can lead there.

At Canberra Grammar School, experiences like this encourage curiosity, challenge stereotypes and remind our students that creativity, skill and determination can shape any future.

Today we celebrate the women in our community, teachers, students, parents and alumni, who lead, innovate and inspire within and beyond our School.

Happy International Women’s Day.

Between big-picture strategy, daily school life and shaping the future of education, Justin still found time to step behind the mic on EdLeaders Podcast with hosts Luke Callier and Mathew Irving for a wide-ranging and energising conversation.

In this engaging episode, Justin explores what truly drives a great school, and it’s far more than results. From the joy of seeing students flourish to scholarships transforming culture and deepening respect, this is education with heart and purpose. At the centre are the 5 Cs—curious, creative, confident and compassionate citizens, the compass guiding everything from classrooms to courageous big decisions. He unpacks bold, future-focused leadership, why success is bigger than an ATAR, and how trust gives leaders the confidence to act for the long term.

Last week we held our Captains Cup where each of our Senior School Houses went head-to-head in a knockout Netball Tournament.

There was a buzz in the stands each lunchtime with students enjoying the opportunity to play competitive mixed sport with their friends and unite as a House before big events like todays Swimming Carnival.

For some of our exchange students, this week was a warm introduction to the sport of netball with it played less prominently abroad than in Australia.

A massive congratulations to Hay for taking home the win, and to our runners up Sheaffe. A big shout out to Garran who took home the bronze medal against a very strong Eddison team. We cant wait to see the team spirit continue throughout 2026!Image attachmentImage attachment+1Image attachment
