Spiritual Life & Chaplaincy

Canberra Grammar School is an Independent Anglican school founded in Christian values that welcomes students of all backgrounds and faiths.

SPIRITUAL LIFE

Awareness of the transcendent begins early. So, we encourage discussions of religion and philosophy from a young age, both at home and School.

We teach our students to respond to human needs with loving service. We educate young leaders of the future who are distinguished by compassion, give more than is received, serve, and love.

Our Religious and Values Education program shares an understanding and respect for our community’s diversity of religions and traditions. We aim to always be sincere, respectful and reflective in spiritual matters and encourage students to explore their personal beliefs with a generous spirit.

The School has strong links with the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn and is committed to the Vision Statements for the Diocese. The School also enjoys collaboration with the other Anglican schools and organisations.

THE CHAPLAINCY

The Chaplaincy cares for the entire School community, including students, their families, members of staff and their families, and alumni.

All students attend Chapel each week, and students can actively participate in Chapel Services. Each senior House has a Sacristan (usually Year 12) who plays a significant part in planning, officiating and fostering House involvement in Chapel.

THE CHAPLAIN IS AVAILABLE FOR PASTORAL SUPPORT AND ADVICE TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

The Chaplain also performs baptisms, confirmations, weddings and funerals, either in the Chapel of Christ the King or elsewhere in the community.

THE CHAPEL OF CHRIST THE KING

The Chapel is a powerful symbol of the School’s Christian foundation and is the focal point for worship at Canberra Grammar School.

Members of the wider School community are welcome at all regular services, including the weekly Eucharist (Holy Communion), which takes place at 8.00am every Wednesday during term time.
