Each year, CGS offers a small number of scholarships to students entering Year 7. These scholarships recognise early promise – in both academic and musical pursuits – and are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding ability and potential.
A scholarship covers 20% of tuition fees from Year 7 through to Year 12. More than that, it’s an acknowledgement – that a student’s curiosity, discipline and developing talents are worth investing in from the very beginning of their secondary journey.
These scholarships are open to domestic Year 5 students from any school.

Canberra Grammar School will accept scholarship applications from domestic students entering Year 7 in 2028.
International students are not eligible to apply.
Year 7 – 2028
Up to four awards. At least two may be offered to external applicants. For students with demonstrably outstanding academic ability, strong curiosity, and the discipline to sustain high performance.
One award. For an outstanding young musician with the technical skill and commitment to develop their craft, contribute to the life of the School, and grow through performance and ensemble. Minimum Grade 6 AMEB (or equivalent).
All applicants must apply for the CGS Foundation Scholarship for Academic Excellence. Students applying for the CGS Foundation Scholarship for Musical Excellence must also complete the academic application and indicate their intention to audition.
Academic assessments are conducted by an independent external provider to ensure fairness. Shortlisted candidates for the Music Scholarship will be invited to attend an audition.
Applicants may audition on multiple instruments. For each instrument, one prepared piece of approximately five minutes’ duration should be performed, demonstrating current technical and musical ability. Applicants may perform with an accompanist provided by the School or arranged independently.
Successful scholars receive their offer and begin the enrolment process for Year 7 at CGS’s Red Hill campus.

Registration closes on Sunday 15 November 2026. No late applications will be accepted.
The CGS Foundation Scholarship for Academic Excellence examination will take place at Canberra Grammar School on Thursday 19 November 2026.
